Happy Memorial Day!

First, thank you to everyone who has served — and to the families who support them. I may not always agree with the decisions made by our government, but I’ll always respect the people who choose to serve. One of my students recently returned from Reserve training, and it was genuinely fun hearing how excited she is about her assignment and experience.

This week is going to feel strange because my brain is convinced today is Sunday instead of Monday. I’m working at both campuses this week, but things are slowing down a bit now that classes are wrapping up.

At my FYE job, I’m only working Tuesday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and then I’m off until June 22 — which feels amazing. My main goals are getting ready for Orientation and finishing a couple of funding reports before I head into break mode.

At my other campus, we’re down to speeches, so my goal is simple: stay caught up on grading every day and have everything finished except final reflections by Friday. If I can pull that off, I’ll have all of next week completely off from both jobs.

I do still need to prep for my summer class, but since I taught it last summer, most of the work is already done. I also need to get the house and pets ready for two weeks away while our new house/pet sitter stays here. One of my students wanted some extra summer cash, so it worked out perfectly.

Honestly, I’m seriously considering hiring someone to do a deep clean before we leave. Coming home after two busy weeks to a sparkling clean house sounds pretty wonderful — and it would be nice for our sitter to start with a clean slate too. If I can get everything clean enough to be cleaned, I’ll definitely do that!

What about you? What are your plans for this last week of May?
