On Wednesdays…

Well, this Wednesday was no average Wednesday. I didn’t wear pink. But, I did a few other things. Even though I thought about not posting, I’m really determined to do this NaBloPoMo! Let’s get to it!

We wake up at 4 am

Not every Wednesday hopefully, but definitely this Wednesday. I was up by 4:25 am and trying to do some things I needed to get done. My husband was supposed to leave for a work trip around 7 am so there was a lot to be done. I am behind at work and was feeling anxious, so I got up early. It wasn’t terribly productive, but I got a few things accomplished.

We discover a leak in our roof

Again, hopefully not every Wednesday. But, this one is special. My husband went into our extra bedroom about 6:30 am to drop something in there before he left and discovered water dripping from the ceiling all over a work bench he has in that room with a lot of tools and expensive stuff. So, we immediately flew into action. We had to move A LOT of stuff, wipe up all the water, and start calling roofers. We had a pretty big storm (for us) last night/this morning and I guess it was too much for our roof. So, now we have a futon sitting in our living room, a bunch of tubs of stuff in our bedroom, and the hall is lined with stuff we brought out of there. Luckily the rain stopped after we found the leak, but next Tuesday and Wednesday, another storm is headed our way. So, we need to get it fixed ASAP. We have roofers coming out to look at it. A year and a half ago we had a similar leak in our garage and they were able to fix it by replacing a few of the tiles on the roof. I’m hoping this is the same. But, now our ceiling has a big bubble and a small hole where my finger went through it. So, we’ll have to get that fixed as well. And we’ll have to do a lot of moving of stuff again once it is repaired.

We review 30 candidates for a job!

Again, hopefully not every Wednesday. We had to narrow down a list of 30 applicants to 6-10 applicants and decide who to interview and who to hold. It took just over an hour. The process wasn’t too awful, but I’m glad it is over. Now, on to interviews.

We panic a bit about the semester

I’m feeling really, really, really behind about now. This is not unusual for me in October and November. I realize I try to do too much and that makes what we do not enough somehow. I think it will all work out fine, but I’m feeling very anxious about all my classes and the job I’m doing at FYE and my house being a bit of a disaster (well, really it is a BIG disaster now…it feels chaotic and unhinged). I need to get my bearings and get a few things done and out of the way. But, I’m also exhausted and not at all excited about grading, prepping Canvas for the remainder of the semester and figuring out what to do about Spring in FYE since we lost a large event. We have an idea, but it feels like a lot to my November self. It will feel better to my December self, I’m sure, but I can’t wait that long to get something moving.

So, there you have it. This Wednesday was rough. I wore black and it felt appropriate. I hope that tomorrow will be a better day. I hope the roof gets fixed. I hope I can deal with the chaos in my house without feeling chaotic myself.

How about you? What did your Wednesday bring?

I have a HUIGE final exam to write for a class of 1200+, an exam to grade in my large lecture (I grade the exams, and the TAs grade the papers), and a research paper PLUS and exam in my criticism class (I have a grader, but she manages the discussion boards since it is a hybrid class). Plus! I always prep Spring before the end of Fall, and that is… a lot. Soooo I hear you on the mid semester stress.

Oh my goodness that does sound like a special and hopefully atypical Wednesday! My Wednesday involved four hours of driving, which was not my idea of a fun time. Hopefully not an every-Wednesday occurrence!

It’s the height of advising season here and I realized about half an hour before my class started today that I hadn’t prepped any of the materials for class. So, basically, Fall semester in a nutshell!

Oof, definitely hope that your Wednesday things are one-offs! That sounds stressful.

Oh no… I hope the roof is fixed. It better be since I am reading this almost four weeks later. What a bad starting a day.

I also feel like I am running behind my to-do-list all the time. I am very good in ignoring and procrastinating about it. Haven’t done any work today. Sigh.
