I know this isn’t true for everyone, but for our neck of the woods (do people still use that phrase? My 17yo asked me what “bosom buddies” meant this morning when it was used on a podcast and looked at me like it was something dirty…so, who knows?), this is the week! The University I work at had some WILD St. Patty’s days in their history, so at some point they moved Spring Break to this week to get the majority of students out of town and off the streets for this holiday. Here is a clip of our newspaper in 24 reporting on the 1999 press conference (yes, an actual press conference was held) warning people to not go too crazy.

Today is day one of Spring Break, and it could not come soon enough for me! None of us got very good sleep last night because my daughter’s stomach was acting up, she started running a fever again, and was in some pain overnight until about 1 or 2 am. So, I was up and back up, and when she finally settled and went to sleep around 2 am, I was up for another hour listening for her to get up. I got less than 4 hours of sleep total because I got up early with my husband to give him some Girl Scout cookies to sell to his friends at a competition he is going to today.

By the way, THANK YOU FOR THE ORDER TO JOANNE IF YOU ARE READING! That was very kind! I hope the cookies are good! This the last weekend of cookie sales for 2026 and we missed a lot of weekends being sick and in the hospital, so if you want cookies, please consider ordering. The shipping cost is expensive unfortunately, but I hear they do a good job of packing them. https://digitalcookie.girlscouts.org/scout/mackenzie800121

I’ve been awake since 5:15 am. I did an online grocery order, my daughter woke up feeling better (thank goodness), we went to Target to shop for a friend’s birthday party she will now be able to attend since she’s feeling better (at Noon), I’m leading a 2 hour free public speaking workshop at a local Chai House for fun and a free chai at 2 pm, and hopefully after that, I’ll be home for the evening and taking a nap this afternoon! I am tired!

The weather is incredibly beautiful here this week. We often have cold rain during Spring Break. Other years, it is blazing hot. Already hitting close to 100. But this year is perfect. Today is 77 at the high, and the rest of the week is mid- to high-80s! It is creeping into the 90s on Friday, so we may have a day or two of sweaty heat, but for the most part, it is going to be get-outside weather, and I am ready for it!

We cancelled our plans for Spring Break travel with all my daughter’s recent hospitalizations and illness, so we’re home all week except Wednesday when we have a GI appointment at Stanford for follow-up from her most recent hospitalization. It should be really nice and we may try to stay one night and go to the beach for a day. We shall see!

That’s all for this post for Day One of Spring Break 2026! I hope everyone has a wonderful Saturday!

Most colleges up here already had spring break. We have been loving our Girl Scout cookies (I don’t think we have that many left!). We only had maybe 2 broken cookies total so they did a great job with shipping. That weather sounds heavenly! Enjoy your break and I hope you get lots of time to rest.

Oh my goodness! You’ve had quite a time! I hope you are able to get some answers about your daughter’s stomach issues. That spring break craziness is … well….crazy. Ha!
