Hello Monday!

Joining the Pink Lady (Holly) and Sunshine and Books (Sarah) for Hello Monday Linkup! Enjoy and join in if you haven’t reflected on your weekend yet!

It was so nice to wake up this morning and not have to worry about what I was doing in class, or what meetings I had coming up, or how I was going to get something done before a deadline!

I did have to get up to return some Girl Scout cookies to our Cookie Cupboard this morning at 8 am. Since yesterday was the last day and I had checked out some for our final booth sale that didn’t sell. The sale is now officially over. But we have cookies left and can continue to sell privately through May. So, I will take them to school and leave them out with an envelope for people to buy and hopefully sell some more before school ends. I neglected to take any photos of her last booth sale of her second-to-last year of Girl Scouts. But, we did it!

Cookies are stressful. It is how we make the money to run our Girl Scout year, and it gets more and more difficult to sell as they get older. But, we’ll plug along for one more year and then my daughter will be finished. I’ve thought of continuing as a troop volunteer, but in all honesty, I think I need a break. I MAY stay one additional year to get the girls through who are Juniors next year, but we’ll see if they even want to continue.

Now, I have to do all the accounting. My Cookie Mom from the prior two years was not involved this year and no one else stepped up, so I was Troop Leader AND Cookie Mom and then my daughter got sick and ended up in the hospital for nine days during the sales. So, it was a lot. And that’s an understatement. So, I have quite a bit of accounting to do this week. I’m just glad I have the week off from work so I’m not trying to do it while working and teaching.

This weekend was a bit of a rollercoaster ride. My daughter’s stomach got better on Saturday so she went to a birthday party at a friend’s house and then to hang out with another friend, watching sunset and going to In and Out. I had my Speaking Workshop and not one person showed up. I was both disappointed, but also a little relieved as I was exhausted after the lack of sleep the night before. The owner felt bad about no one showing so she gave me a free chai and breakfast bun on top of the two free chai coupons they give to all the workshop leaders. I was able to enjoy it at the tables outside and it was bliss.

That night, my husband smoked chicken thighs and breasts and we had them on top of caesar salad and it was tasty.

On Sunday, we were scheduled to do four hours of booth sales, but my daughter woke up in pain again. I got a bit frustrated because of the marathon session she had with friends the day before but now was unable to go and stand at a booth sale, then I felt bad. We both ended up in tears for a bit and I cancelled the first booth sale. She went and took a long nap. I went and got an iced tea. What she has right now is difficult to deal with because it definitely comes and goes without any seeming triggers or patterns. And with a teen, you sometimes feel like you’re being taken advantage of as a parent. But, then, I feel bad about feeling that way. Parenting is hard.

A couple of hours later she woke up feeling better, so we ended up selling for an hour and a half and sold almost three cases, which was great. She still didn’t feel 100%, but was much better. She stayed home last night and seems to be doing better again today. She’s going out to take photos in the park with friends and this morning she went and had Tea Bar and “studied” (admittingly, not getting much done) with a friend. I’m happy she is having some fun during Spring Break since we didn’t plan any trips this time around. Last year at this time, we were at Disneyland! This year, not so much.

The remainder of today for me will be spent doing some cleaning out and organizing in the garage, putting some laundry away, and maybe a trip to the thrift store to putter around and see what they have. Or, I may just sit around at home doing not much of anything! It is Spring Break. Anything is possible!
