What I’m Reading

I have been struggling to find any podcasts that were really striking my fancy, so I went back to Audible last week (and got a couple of $.99 books for rejoining!). So, I’m finishing listening to Poppy Harmon and the Hung Jury as I drive around. I don’t have much of a commute, so it is pretty slow going, but the chapters are short, so it works. It is kind of like Murder She Wrote meets Golden Girls and is really a fun listen! This is the second in the series I’ve listened to and I’m likely to get another when I’m finished with this one. It doesn’t take too much focus to follow along and I like all the characters.
On Kindle, I’m reading The Admissions which has been very intriguing so far! I’m 38% through the book according to Kindle and I still haven’t figured out exactly what is going on, but I feel for the mom in the story. The story is set in the Bay Area, near where I grew up and where we visit often when we’re going to my daughter’s medical appointments. I like books that are set in places with which I’m familiar. The story features a stressed out high schooler who is trying to get into Harvard and her chaotic family. It feels familiar only through adjacent knowledge as my daughter is going to Community College when she graduates and definitely not planning on a Harvard Education. I’m also not selling 4 million dollar homes as the mom in the books is, but I can relate to her constant, overwhelming to-do list. So far, I’m enjoying both.
I probably should start a paper book as well. I have Wrinkle in Time on hold at the library, so I’ll try to pick that up tomorrow. It is featured in the newest season of Stranger Things and I loved it when I was younger, so I figured I would re-read it.
What I’m Watching

This has been a decent week of TV for me. I usually just have Murder She Wrote playing in the background. But, today I watched a so-so Holiday Mystery on UpTV – “A Christmas Murder Mystery”. It was okay. I feel like they were trying to do something ala Astrid on PBS, but the woman playing the autistic investigator was not as good as the one on PBS. But, it kept my attention.

I thought this one was really cute, but I do love cats! As most, if not all, Hallmark Movies are, it was totally predictable. But, I loved the cat cafe and the little events they did to celebrate the season were very cute. I liked the actress a lot. The actor has a weird affect that is a little off-putting at times, but overall, I loved it. Would definitely watch again!
We watched an episode of Fire Country, which I should like because it is supposed to be set in Northern California, but it wasn’t riveting for me. It was a little too much drama for me, but my husband seemed to like it, so we may watch it again. He is driving back from the airport after being away for work for four days, so we haven’t picked it up again yet.
That’s about it for me. I didn’t write much of anything and I listened to the book above, so nothing interesting there! Currently, I’m watching another UpTV movie: The Case of the Christmas Diamond. I’ll let you know how it is next week!
