Friday Favorites – Joyful Moments

If you’ve made it through the whirlwind of May, congratulations! It isn’t easy, friends! My daughter still has finals next week, but I’ve wrapped up the semester—just a bit of grading left. I’m more than ready for summer, but first, here are this week’s favorites! Don’t forget to check out the fun over at Momfessionals and A Little Bit of Everything!

A week without work every day!

This past year was a lot—teaching four days a week at two campuses and an online class, FYE office hours five days a week, and working almost every other weekend in both Fall and Spring. It was TOO MUCH.

But this week? Bliss. I had a final Tuesday, Zoom sessions Thursday, and today just a light wrap-up: a few students dropping by, one finishing a paper, and subbing a colleague’s final. Once grades are in, I have the whole next week off!

I realize how much just one unstructured day can improve my life and energy!

Friends who perform!

Good friends after their dance performance!

Youth Group and Leading at VBX

My daughter recently returned to youth group after a long break, and I couldn’t be happier. She’s so excited to help with VBX (Vacation Bible Experience) this summer!

She attended VBX for years, and I just found this sweet photo from her very first one—Safari theme and all, beaming with joy. Now she gets to pass that same joy on to other kids. Full circle moment! 💛

Having Friends for Dinner

No photos this time (and I’m kicking myself for that), but this week we had special dinner guests. My daughter’s former preschool teacher—now a lifelong friend—is spending a year on the road with her husband after retiring. They’ve been gone a few months but stopped back in town for the weekend, so we hosted a dinner with our old camping crew – the preschool teacher, her husband and another preschool family whose daughter is still my daughter’s best friend.

We made Instant Pot chili, grilled burgers and Nathan’s dogs, and they brought salad and loaded baked potatoes. The evening was full of laughter, stories, and that familiar comfort of long-time friendships. I miss having it more regularly.

She’s finding the travel life both exciting and tough—being far from her people isn’t easy. But they’re seeing amazing places and reconnecting with family across the country. We may try to visit them on the road, but for now, I’m holding tight to this joy-filled evening.

That wraps this Friday Favorites! Thanks for reading! But, I’m curious – let me know your responses in comments!

  1. Would you sell your house, pack it all away and spend a year on the road? I don’t think I could do it.
  2. Did you do Vacation Bible School? What was your favorite theme? We did a Knights and Princess theme one year and we set up tables in the parking lot in a rectangle (we couldn’t do a circle with the rectangular tables) where everyone at VBS sat at the “Knights’ Round Table”. It was so fun – but a little hot.
