On Wednesdays: We drive, sip, read, repeat!

I decided to use one of my favorite lines from Mean Girls in my posts on Wednesdays. On this day each week, I will be posting about the things I do on that Wednesday, as well as pearls of Wednesday wisdom.

On Wednesdays…We Wrap Up May

Can you believe May is already over? It feels like the year is flying by—maybe because I’ve been doing way too much. Or maybe it’s just that “time speeds up as you get older” thing. Either way, this Wednesday is giving relaxed vibes, and I’m here for it.

Have to do: Just one meeting at 12:30 about the Community Debate program.
🤷 Could do: Clear a travel account, some grading, or prep my summer course.
Want to do: Reading (✔️), write this blog post (doing it!), and watch baseball (also doing it!).

Today’s wisdom? Sometimes it’s okay to throw the to-do list out the window and just do what you want. I did not get any of the Could Dos done!

On Wednesdays…We Read

I’m juggling three books right now (two I love, one I keep forgetting exists):

I am about 2/3 of the way through this one. A dual timeline murder mystery told through a great-aunt’s 1960s diary and a modern-day niece. Usually, I’m not into time-jumping, but this one works! It’s a quick read—and overdue at the library, so that’s extra motivation.

Next is Poppy Harmon and the Hung Jury by Lee Hollis. I’m listening to this cozy mystery during drives and errand runs. Poppy is a retired actress in Palm Springs who opens a detective agency with her quirky friends. It’s like Golden Girls meets Murder, She Wrote and perfect for short bursts of listening.

A sweet story about an older woman starting over in a sunny town, but it’s been my back-burner read. I’ll need to refocus soon before I forget what’s going on entirely.

Noticing any themes? Warm weather. Women starting over. And always, always mysteries. These days, I gravitate toward light-hearted stories—because real life brings enough drama.

Wednesday Wisdom: Read for Free (or Close to It)

Books don’t have to break the bank. Here are my favorite ways to read without spending much (or anything):

1. Library Extension: This browser tool checks your local library as you browse books online. If it’s available? Click and place a hold—right from the Amazon or Storygraph or Goodreads page. Pure magic.

2. Kindle Unlimited: For $11.99/month, I get access to a huge library of books, magazines, and even reads for my daughter. One book a month pays for itself.

3. Little Free Libraries: I adore these. Every box has its own personality! I check them when I pass by, and we have several sprinkled around town. Never know what gem I’ll find! You can check for ones in your area on their global map!

On Wednesday, we get Starbucks!

Wednesday is late start for both Middle School and High School around here, so we will often get Starbucks on the way to school. Today was definitely a good day for my recent favorite: Iced Latte with Cherry Cold Foam. So good!

On Wednesdays…We Drive (A Lot)

Here’s what our Wednesday looked like today:

  • ☕Starbucks
  • 🦟CVS for bug bite gel
  • 🚌 School
  • 😷 Orthodontist appointment
  • 🥤Panera Sip Club break for Mom (Iced tea for afternoon lift)
  • 👚 Returned tank tops that didn’t fit
  • 🏠 Home for an hour
  • 🧪 Tutoring (Chemistry, aka the villain of Sophomore year)
  • 🙏 Youth Group with a surprise potluck = leftover Girl Scout cookies FTW!

It’s a full-on “chauffeur mom” kind of day—but I’ll be thankful I didn’t have to make a grocery store run for a potluck item!

What does your Wednesday look like? Are you wearing Pink? 😉
